One perfect Iris...

On the last day of February, when the garden still looks to all intent and purposes like a muddy field, i drabness broken only by the the simple whites and yellows, I had to note this plucky little iris braving out the northern winds!
I want to bottle its blueness!
How I wish we grew fields of these. Whats the first sign of colour in your garden, which plants foretell the coming of spring for you?

  1. What a blue beauty - so intense. I guess crocus come up after snowdrops and then of course dafaodils, but for me nothing quite says it's spring like the primrose.

  2. Hurray! Hurray! I can comment - now over to Firefox! Snowdrops were out first but I can see green shoots on the front lawn! Fascinating time.

  3. I love Iris's, they always remind me of my grandma as she grew them. I have primroses out in my garden but they're been rather bashed about by the wind and rain.

  4. Just found your blog and look forward to following along. Love that iris, especially this time of year when we have nothing blooming here yet.

  5. My goodness! I can hardly believe you have an Iris in bloom already. How wonderful!

The pale pink of a tiny plant called "Spring Beauty" is usually the first color we have here, soon followed by bright yellow daffodils.
